John Stefulj Flute Music Teacher Location: Brisbane, Queensland Currently based in Brisbane, John Stefulj is familiar with many instruments. He has composed, arranged, performed, recorded and taught with a number of artists. John is proficient in playing woodwind instruments, especially flutes, clarinets and saxophones, and he has predominantly played and taught those instruments in particular. He also plays a variety of percussion instruments and assorted other instruments, and works with a wide group of musicians. John performs, records, composes and teaches within and across a variety of contemporary, traditional and indigenous musical genre as part of his lifelong commitment to participate in discovering, generating, supporting, developing and promoting music and culture throughout communities, and so he has found that his work in ensembles, recordings, clinics, festivals and teaching has been personally quite rewarding. Through teaching, John has shared the experiences gained from his involvement in a broad range of music and music-related environments, and similarly, he finds teaching to be integral to his sense of creativity and contribution in performance. John realises his enthusiasm towards composed and improvised music by blending both approaches comfortably, and his experience in this regard has led him to experiment in many acoustic and electronic mediums. Consequently, John continues to enjoy a broadening media base through his involvement in a range of educational, film and multimedia environments and he enjoys expressing music in combination with those and other art forms. John’s work throughout Australia as a professional multi-instrumentalist over the past twenty-three years has also provided him with opportunities in television, radio, theatre and street performance, and during this time, he has used those activities to enhance his teaching practice. In addition to his performance and private teaching pursuits, John lectures in jazz saxophone at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, and is presently undertaking postgraduate study in education.
