| Sophie started playing flute when she
was nine years of age and has been actively playing ever since.
Throughout her schooling, she participated in various music ensembles,
exams and compeitions. She continued her flute playing after school by
performing for weddings, various community functions and events,
musicals, competitions, and concerts both in Rockhampton and in
Brisbane. Sophie received her Associate Diploma in Flute from the
Australian Music Examinations Board in 2000 in Rockhampton. She moved
to Brisbane in 2003 to pursue her musical studies further and studied
with Karen Lonsdale privately, before being accepted into the Bachelor
of Music course at the University of Queensland in 2004. Sophie is
currently in her third year of studying flute performance under
Jeanette Manricks at the University of Queensland's School of Music in
St Lucia, Brisbane. Sophie currently plays as part of Dolce Flute Duo
for local weddings, function s and events in the Brisbane area
Sophie started
teaching the flute in 1997 and has almost 10 years teaching experience
with students of all levels with sucessful results in competitions,
examinations, school instrumental music programs, workshops and
concerts. As a tertiary music student and a member of the Queensland
Flute Guild, she is up to date with the latest music events in Brisbane
and has access to the university's wide range of library
resources for
her teaching studio. Above all, Sophie believes that learning the flute
should be fun and encourages her students to learn and play a variety
of musical syles and find as many performing opportunities as possible
to share their music with the world!
